An Air Canada Express flight caught fire while landing at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Saturday. Some videos surfaced on social media showing the plane skidding through the runway while having caught fire.
An Air Canada flight operated by Pal Airlines arriving from St John's experienced an incident upon landing, the airport said in a statement.
Peter Fitzpatrick, the spokesperson of Air Canada said that the plane experienced a "suspected landing gear issue" after arrival, as per Globe and Mail.
The aircraft could not reach the terminal and the crew and 73 passengers were off-loaded by bus.
Flight operations were temporarily suspended while waiting for clearance so that airfield operations could continue.
According to a CBC News report, one of the plane's tyres did not deploy during landing.
This happened because the plane tilted around a 20-degree angle to the left and there was a crash-like sound, Nikki valentine, a passenger was cited telling CBC News.
“The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left and, as that happened, we heard a pretty loud — what almost sounded like a crash sound — as the wing of the plane started to skid along the pavement, along with what I presume was the engine," she told CBC News.
“The plane shook quite a bit and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane and smoke started coming in the windows," she added.
