Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has rejected reports of tourism declining in the state. The speaker is inviting people from all over India to visit Goa, especially in December, which is a festive time with international events, Christmas, and New Year celebrations.
“All the hotels here are full...Some influencers keep saying on social media that tourists are not coming to Goa and are going to other places. They are doing the wrong thing, they are giving a wrong message about Goa to the people,” said the CM in the press.
He urged those critics to see the vibrant and lively atmosphere in Goa for themselves, emphasizing the warm welcome extended to everyone visiting.
“I also want to tell them that they should come and see the coastal sites themselves”, he added further.
Goa Tourism On Decline
After a report that claimed international tourism in the state had fallen short of pre-Covid levels went popular online last month, a number of Indians came out to relate startling tales of the "Goa taxi mafia." X user Ramanuj Mukherjee shared the CEIC Data report, writing
“Tourism in Goa is down in the dumps. Foreign tourists have abandoned the state already. Look at 2019 v 2023 numbers. Russians and Brits who used to visit annually have opted for Sri Lanka instead,” he wrote on X.
Users On Go Goa Gone
Social media is debating on the charm of goa being lost after covid citing several reasons. One of the major reasons cited by netizens remains the unwelcoming nature of Goans for tourists.
One user wrote replying to the CM quote;
“Just don't ask him to act against taxi and hotel mafia or rudely behaving locals as if tourists are some criminals,”
“What about the prices of hotels....One can go and come back from Thailand and still save some money....!! Goa is overrated now !!,” wrote another user.
