Pune Metro has been operating seamlessly since its inauguration by Prime Minister Modi. Marking Good Governance Day, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil assured that the state government is ready to support the next phase of development for the metro. This will only indicate the importance of the metro in developing public transportation in Pune.
Pune Metro: State Support
In a recent review, Minister Chandrakant Patil was satisfied with the performance of the metro and assured state and central government support to finalize the pending routes. He traveled between the District Court and Mandai Metro Stations to experience the service firsthand, accompanied by MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar and local MLA Hemant Rasne.

Pune Metro: Phase 1
The first phase of the Pune Metro has opened the gates for extension projects. Work has already started on the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)-Nigdi route after completing the tender process. Meanwhile, the Swargate-Katraj route is close to its final tender stage and a contractor appointment is also expected soon.
Pune Metro: Details of Phase 2
Pune Metro's Phase II features ambitious proposals for seven more routes, which are now seeking national government permission. The proposed routes aim to connect significant places around the city. Phase 2 covers four routes, with two major ones getting sanctioned:
Khadakwasla to Kharadi (via Swargate and Hadapsar)
Length: 25.8 km
Stations: 22
Cost Estimation: Rs 8,131 crore
Nal Stop to Manik Baug (via Warje)
Length: 6 km
Stations: 6
Cost Estimation: Rs 1,765 crore
Vanaz to Chandni Chowk
Length: 1.1 km
Stations: 2
Ramwadi to Wagholi
Length: 11.6 km
Stations: 11 stations
The estimated cost of Phase 2 will be Rs 9,897 crore. The project is awaiting approval from the Central government to initiate the actual work.
