Apple likely to launch Meta-like smart glasses in 2027: Report

Apple is reportedly planning to expand its visionOS-powered device lineup soon. The company launched its first mixed-reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, in 2023. Since then, it hasn't announced any major updates to the lineup barring the timely updates to vision. But now, a new report suggests that Apple's Vision Products Group is working on at least four new devices. While two of these devices are likely to arrive in 2027, at least one device is likley to be unveiled in 2025 and one in 2026.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his weekly Power On newsletter wrote that Apple 's Vision Products Group is working on two new Vision Pro-like mixed reality headsets that could arrive in 2025 and 2026. The first device is a low-end Vision Pro like MR headset that is likely to arrive in 2025. According to Gurman, this headset will be priced around $2,000 (Rs 1,68,800 approximately) and use slightly cheaper material. It also likely to be powered by a slighly inferior processor and miss out on the EyeSight feature that shows a user's eyes on the front of the MR headset to enable nearby people understand when the use is using apps and when they are immersed in an experience.

The company is also working on the second generation Vision Pro that could arrive sometime in 2026. This high-end MR headset is likely to get a faster chipset and offer support for more advanced Apple Intelligence features. Gurman didn't mention the potential pricing of this device in his newsletter.

Beyond, these, the company is also working on developing Meta's Ray-Ban-like smart glasses. These smart glasses, just like Meta's smart glasses will enable users to capture images, listen to music and get information from Apple Intelligence. They are expected to be launched sometime in 2027.

Lastly, Apple is also working on developing AirPods with cameras -- something reports have suggested for long. These AirPods with cameras will use external cameras and Apple Intelligence to understand the surrounding environment and provide users with relevant information. These AirPods are expected to arrive in 2027 along with Apple's smart glasses.
