A computer engineer from Bihar has received a job offer from Google with an annual compensation of Rs 2 crore. Hailing from Jamu Khariya, a small village in Bihar’s Jamui district, Abhishek Kumar will begin his job at Google’s London office in October. Kumar expressed his excitement and said landing this job is his “biggest achievement,” in a media interview.
NDTV has reported that Kumar, who finished his schooling in Jamui, holds a degree in software engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Patna. He previously worked at Amazon, assuming a role with a Rs 1.08 crore package in 2022. After working until March 2023, Kumar moved to a German investment firm’s foreign exchange trading unit, but he had higher ambitions.
How Kumar landed the Google job
Kumar told NDTV that he began preparing for an interview at Google while working at the second firm. However, it was not easy managing the schedule for the tech company’s notoriously tough interview. Kumar said he worked 8-9 hours a day and utilised the remaining time to hone his coding skills, a prerequisite for the role he was preparing. “Creating a proper strategy for interviews was very important, and maintaining consistency with that strategy was crucial. Whatever time I had, I used it to focus on coding and preparing for the interview questions, which eventually helped me crack all the interviews,” the report quoted Kumar as saying.
Besides time management, Kumar also highlighted how he overcame personal challenges, including living in a mud house initially. “Even though I come from a small town and my roots are in a village where my home was made of mud, after getting the right resources, I’m building a new house,” he added. He also told the publication that his family faced medical challenges, such as his mother’s health problems. “Once we had the resources, we took her to the best hospitals and got her treated. So, I always focused on my studies because I strongly believed that through education, the happiness of my entire family would increase,” he said.
Kumar’s father Indradev Yadav, a lawyer at the Jamui Civil Court, and mother Manju Devi, a homemaker, said education was always a top priority in the household, which pushed him to aim for higher success.
