X to announce fresh round of layoffs: Elon Musk -owned X (formerly Twitter) is likely to announce a fresh round of layoffs at the company soon. While the exact number of employees that will get affected by this round of job cuts and the exact timeline of the announcement remains unclear, reports suggest that these job cuts will primarily affect the company's engineering team.
It is worth noting that the news of a fresh round of layoffs at the company comes shortly after the X staffers were asked to submit a summary of their contributions to the company to get their stocks payout. According to a report by The Verge, Musk had sent an email to all of X's employees asking them to submit a detailed summary of how their contributions have helped the company to the leadership in a bid to get their stock grants. The request followed promotions getting delayed indefinitely at the company without any explanation.
Employees leave X after Musk's takeover
To recall, Elon Musk bought X, which was formerly called Twitter, in October 2022. Since then more than 6,000 staffers have been laid off from the company. Then earlier this year in January, the company laid off around 1,000 employees from its ‘Safety’ staff, which included the people that worked on stopping abusive content online. Details of these lays offs were shared by Australia's eSafety Commission earlier this year. In its report, the commission said that 1,213 ‘trust and safety staff’, including the full time employees and contract workers, had left the social media firm since it was acquired by Musk almost two years back. Out of these around 80 percent were software engineers that were focussed on 'trust and safety issues'.
Tesla also faced job cuts in 2024
Notably, Musk not only cut jobs from X this year but he aslo reduced the headcount at Tesla. Back in April, Musk fired Tesla's entire team responsible for creating superchargers. The layoffs affected nearly 500 Tesla staffers.
