Pune Truck Driver Rampage: Drunk Driver Kills 3 - What Happened

A truck driver in Pune has run over several people sleeping on a footpath in Pune killing three people, including two children.

Among the people who got killed was a man, and six others were injured.

Reportedly, thr truck driver ran over people in Wagholi around 12:30 am.

The dead have been identified as Vaibhavi Pawar (1), Vaibhav Pawar (2) and Vishal Pawar (22), by the authorities, while the injured have been taken to Sassoon general Hospital.

According to reports, many people were sleeping on the footpath near Kesnand Phata area, and most of them were labourers.

Most of these labourers were sleeping in shanties, reportedly, and they had arrived from Maharashtra's Amravati to Pune on Sunday to work at construction sites, an IANS report said.

Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 4, said that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He has been arrested under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and BNS for further investigation.
