The Election Commission of India (ECI) will on Tuesday announce the schedule for polls to the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
The Commission has convened a press conference at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, to announce the election schedule. The term of the 70-member Assembly ends on February 23, and elections have to held before that to constitute a new House.
Delhi has traditionally seen assembly polls in a single phase.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will host a press conference today to announce the schedule for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi.
Delhi Election: Previous Cycles
The announcement of the voting dates by ECI will signal the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
In the previous election cycle of Delhi, the schedule was revealed on January 6, 2020, on February 8 the polling happened, and on February 11 the results were counted.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has previously won the two election cycles, with 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020 elections. The ruling party is also contesting and seeking a third consecutive win.
AAP and Congress which are part of the India Alliance are expected to contest separately. The top contenders are contesting elections separately.
Although AAP and Congress joined forces for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, the two parties are to go head-to-head in the upcoming Assembly polls.
