Stock Market LIVE: Sensex Ends 2024's Final Session 110 Pts Lower, Nifty Around 23,650

The Indian stock market ended on a mixed note today, with the Sensex slipping by 21.66 points, or 0.03%, to close at 78,226.47. Meanwhile, the Nifty managed to edge up by 13.25 points, or 0.06%, ending the day at 23,658.15. Among the top gainers on the Nifty were BEL, ONGC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Trent, and Coal India, while the biggest losers included Adani Enterprises, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Infosys, and SBI Life Insurance. On the Sensex, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ITC, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and NTPC emerged as the top gainers, while Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, Zomato, Axis Bank, and HCL Technologies were the major losers.

In the pre-close, the Sensex is at 78,120.12, down by 128 points or 0.16%. Meanwhile, the Nifty stands at 23,649.65, showing a modest gain of 4.75 points, or 0.02%.

 Akzo Nobel India Limited received demand order received from Karnataka GST Department.

Venus Remedies Shares Surge over 4% following the news of  Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification by the Ministry of Health of Moldova, further enhancing its presence in the European market. 

India VIX up by almost 4%. Volatility Index is a measure of market’s expectation of volatility over the near term.

Wipro announced on Monday that the acquisition of Applied Value Technologies Pte Ltd is now expected to be finalized by January 31, 2025. Through its subsidiaries, Wipro had previously signed a definitive agreement to acquire 100% ownership of Applied Value Technologies, Inc., Applied Value Technologies B.V., and Applied Value Technologies Pte Ltd, the company stated in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Brent crude futures increased by 30 cents, reaching $74.39 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose by 79 cents, settling at $71.16 per barrel.

Venus Remedies has been awarded the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification by the Ministry of Health of Moldova, further enhancing its presence in the European market. 

CESC Ltd, a small-cap power generation company, is poised to announce a dividend for its shareholders. The company revealed in an exchange filing that the dividend proposal will be discussed during the board meeting scheduled for January 10, 2024 (Friday). The board will review the financial results for the third quarter of FY2025 and consider the approval of an interim dividend.

Suyog Telematics Limited signed a  with Lotus Tele Infra Private Limited, its existing promoters, and shareholders for the acquisition of 100% of the equity share capital of Lotus Tele Infra Private
Limited. The aggregate consideration for this acquisition is INR 13.5 Crores
 

Suzlon Group has announced that CRISIL Ratings has upgraded its credit rating to ‘CRISIL A’ with a Positive Outlook, underscoring the company’s robust performance and improved profitability. This marks the second rating upgrade by CRISIL in 2024, reflecting Suzlon’s strong operational Earlier this year, CRISIL had assigned Suzlon a rating of ‘CRISIL A-’, which has now been further upgraded to ‘CRISIL A’ in recognition of the company’s improved financial metrics and growing opportunity in the dynamic renewable energy sector. 

RVNL has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a Rs 137.16 crore project awarded by Central Railway. The project focuses on the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of 132/55 KV traction substations, sectioning posts, and sub-sectioning posts for the 2x25 KV traction system with Scott-connected transformers.
 

Seems like the last of 2024 is not really happening for the Indian stock market as most of the sectors are declining  with IT declining almost 2%. Nifty Realty is also following its lead, and falling by almost 1%. Leading the loss we have Lodha, Phoenix Ltd, Godrej Prop, Sobha & Raymond

Banco Products (India) Limited announced its  Bonus Allotment Committee of the Company, in its meeting held on Tuesday, 31st December 2024, at the registered office, has approved the allotment of 7,15,18,650 Equity Shares of Rs. 2/- each as fully paid-up Bonus Equity Shares. The allotment will be made in the proportion of 1:1, meaning that for every 1 existing fully paid-up equity share of Rs. 2/- each held, the eligible members will receive 1 additional fully paid-up equity share of Rs. 2/- each.

The eligible members entitled to receive the bonus shares are those whose names appear in the Register of Members or the Register of Beneficial Owners as of the 'Record Date', which is fixed as 30th December 2024.

W.S. Industries (India) Limited has bagged an order for construction of additional works and balance works at Integrated Bus Terminal and Multi-Utility Facility Centre at Panjappur in Tiruchirappalli City Corporation, Tamil Nadu, approximately valued at Rs 86.26 Crores (inclusive of GST). 
 

OK Play India Limited has been informed by its Promoter Director, Mr. Rajan Handa, that he has sold 1,24,10,402 equity shares of the company in the open market on December 26th, 27th, and 30th, 2024. The proceeds from this sale will primarily be used to retire high-cost loans secured against the promoter's equity, thereby reducing both debt and interest burden.

This transaction will lead to the release and un-pledging of 3.94 crore equity shares of the company.
 

On the last day of 2024, the stock market is plunging with most of nifty indices in red, but there this one which happens to give some relief to the investors is the Nifty Pharma up by almost 1%. Leading the gains are Aurobindo Pharma, Lupin, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Zydus Lifesciences, Divi's Laboratories, Mankind Pharma & Sun Pharmaceutical Industries

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Reliance Digital Health Limited (RDHL), announced on Monday the acquisition of a 45% equity stake in Health Alliance Group Inc. The transaction, valued at $10 million, is on a fully diluted basis and marks a significant move in Reliance's healthcare ambitions.

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) announced that it has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a Rs 137.16 crore project in the Bhusaval-Khandwa section of Central Railway. Following the announcement, RVNL shares surged nearly 5% in trading.

Adani Wilmar's stock price plunged by approximately 7.5% in early trading on Tuesday after the Adani Group announced its exit from the company. The shares opened around 6% lower at Rs 310, compared to the previous day's closing price of Rs 328.75 on the NSE. Within the first 10 minutes of trading, the stock hit a low of Rs 304.25.

Easy Trip Planners shares plummeted 10% to Rs 15.36 per share following reports that promoter and co-founder Nishant Pitti plans to sell his remaining 14.21% stake in the company on Tuesday, December 31, via a lock-in deal. The stake sale is valued at Rs 780 crore.

Unimech Aerospace shares had a stellar debut on the final trading session of 2024. On the NSE, the stock listed at Rs 1,460, marking an 85.99% increase from the IPO issue price of Rs 785. On the BSE, the stock opened at Rs 1,491, up 89.94%.

Nifty IT declines by more than 2%, leading the loss are Persistent Systems, MphasiS, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, HCL Tech, LTIMindtree & L&T.

In the sectoral indices outlook, Nifty IT is down by more than 2%, followed by losses in the banking, auto, financial services, FMCG, media, metal, PSU bank, realty, and consumer durables sectors. On the gaining side, only the pharma sector shows an uptick.

Shares of Lupin surged on December 31 as investors responded positively to the company's acquisition of the diabetes drug Huminsulin from global pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, boosting its portfolio.

Small-cap, Mid-cap, and micro-cap stocks are facing pressure, with the Nifty Smallcap 100, Nifty Midcap 100, and Nifty Microcap 250 indices trading approximately half a percent lower each.

On Monday, Billionaire Gautam Adani-led Adani Enterprises is all set to fully exit Adani Wilmar. In an exchange filing the company said that it will sell the stake in Adani Wilmar Ltd to achieve minimum public shareholding requirements.  Wilmar International has agreed to acquire ~31% held by AEL in Adani Wilmar Ltd. With this move, Adani Enterprises Limited will fully exit the Adani Wilmar platform.

In the early trade, SBI, Kotak Bank, Adani Ports, Tata Motors, Nestle India and Tata Steel are the top gainers. On the losing streak we have Zomato, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance and Axis Bank. 

 The rupee opened at 85.59/$ on Tuesday, showing a slight dip from Monday's closing value of 85.54/$.

 On the last trading day of the year, markets began on a subdued note. The Sensex dropped 359.06 points, or 0.46%, to 77,889.07, while the Nifty declined 93.00 points, or 0.39%, to 23,551.90.

SBI Life announced on Monday that its board has approved the acquisition of a 10% stake in Bima Sugam India Federation for Rs 6.6 crore. Established on June 18, 2024, Bima Sugam India Federation aims to build a centralized marketplace for insurance products and services.

ITC has announced that the hotel business demerger will be effective January 1, 2025. The company would retain a 40per cent stake in the newly listed ITC Hotels while the remaining 60per cent would be given to ITC shareholders as per their holding.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd announced on Monday that British International Investment Plc will make a final tranche investment of Rs 650 crore in its electric vehicle (EV) arm. This investment amount is revised from the initially planned Rs 725 crore.

The Asia-Pacific region saw mixed market movements on the last trading day of the year, with investors closely monitoring China's latest manufacturing data. China's purchasing managers' index for December fell short of expectations, reflecting limited impact from Beijing's economic stimulus measures.

Hong Kong’s market edged higher in morning trade, while mainland China’s stocks slipped slightly. Australia's market opened lower and traded in the red on its shortened trading day.

Meanwhile, Japan and South Korea’s markets were closed for the New Year’s Eve holiday. In South Korea, consumer inflation showed an uptick in December, both on an annual and monthly basis.

US markets ended Monday on a downbeat note as major indices saw significant declines. Technology-heavy stocks, which had driven much of the year’s gains, took a hit, with megacap giants and chip makers falling under profit-taking pressure. The AI-driven rally that propelled the Nasdaq and S&P earlier in the year faltered, while economic concerns and end-of-year positioning weighed on broader equities. By the close, the Dow, S&P, and Nasdaq all logged losses, marking a rough end to December—a month that has been challenging for equities overall. The Dow posted its worst monthly performance in over a year, while the S&P recorded its steepest drop in months. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq managed to hold onto a modest gain for December, reflecting the resilience of certain tech stocks. Markets will remain closed Wednesday for New Year’s Day.

The stock markets ended in the red on Monday, with the Nifty closing at 23,644.90, down 168.50 points (-0.71%) from its opening of 23,796.90. The Sensex also dipped, ending at 78,248.13, a decline of 450.94 points (-0.57%) after opening at 78,637.58.
