Stock exchanges to remain closed on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti
Trading will resume as usual on Thursday, October 3, allowing investors to return to the markets after the holiday.

Stock Market Holiday: The National Stock Exchange ( NSE ) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be closed on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, in observance of Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday marking the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi, a key leader in India’s independence movement, is remembered for his philosophy of nonviolence and civil disobedience.
As a result, all trading activities, including equity, equity derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments, will be suspended. Additionally, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will observe the holiday, with both trading sessions closed on October 2.
Trading will resume as usual on Thursday, October 3, allowing investors to return to the markets after the holiday.
On Tuesday, domestic benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 closed marginally lower after a day of range-bound trading.
The BSE Sensex ended at 84,266.29, down 33.49 points, or 0.04 per cent, while the NSE Nifty50 slipped by 13.95 points, or 0.05 per cent, to settle at 25,796.90.
Of the 50 stocks in the Nifty50, 29 closed in the red, with IndusInd Bank, ONGC , Asian Paints , Bajaj Auto, and Tata Steel posting losses of up to 2.66 per cent. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra , Mahindra & Mahindra, Britannia Industries, Infosys , and Adani Enterprises registered gains of up to 2.90 per cent.
In the broader market, the Nifty SmallCap100 index rose by 0.79 per cent, while the Nifty MidCap100 index saw an increase of 0.34 per cent.
