Sensex, Nifty end marginally higher; Banks drag, IT stocks gain

Equity benchmarks opened today, January 1, 2024, on a bearish flat note, and did not witness significant change during the day's trade. Nifty opened today at 21,727.75, touched a high of 21,834.35 during the day's trade. In the Nifty index, Nestle, Adani Enterprises, and IT stocks led the rally while auto, bank stocks fell considerably.

BSE Sensex closed 31.68 points higher at 72,271.94 and Nifty 50 closed 10.50 points higher at 21,741.90.

All the broad market indices opened on a positive note today with Nifty Microcap 250 being the highest gainer. Coming to sector indices, Nifty Bank fell 0.12 per cent, Nifty Auto fell 0.13 per cent Nifty Financial Services fell -0.14 per cent.
