Akasa Air, India's rapidly expanding airline, has announced the appointment of Belson Coutinho as its Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective January 6, 2025. In his new role, Belson will oversee the airline's critical operational functions as Akasa Air works towards its ambitious goal of becoming one of the top 30 airlines globally by the end of the decade.
Belson, an experienced professional in the aviation industry with over 20 years of tenure, will be looking after Akasa Air's Inflight Services, Airport Services, Maintenance & Engineering, Flight Operations, and Operational Excellence. He will also head the airline's Akasa Air Learning Academy. He is known for launching several industry-first initiatives in Indian aviation during his career, using his operations, strategy, and leadership expertise.

Belson has been an integral member of the Akasa Air executive committee since the airline's founding in 2022. In his previous role, he worked as Co-Founder and Chief Marketing & Experience Officer, where he was instrumental in establishing the airline's brand vision and mobilizing many customer-centric initiatives supporting Akasa Air's rapid growth.
Akasa Air has been known for its operational efficiency and positive customer feedback, quickly becoming one of India's favorite carriers, with over 14 million passengers served since its launch in August 2022. The airline connects 22 domestic and five international cities, including major Indian hubs such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Kochi, as well as international destinations like Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait City.
Primed by reliable operations, affordable fares, and excellent customer service with a youthful and employee-centric approach, Akasa Air soars to success. The carrier launched its first international flight in March 2024, the first Indian airline to fly overseas within 19 months of launching services domestically.
