Cabinet clears Rs 30,765 crore metro projects in Karnataka and Maharashtra

Metro projects: The Union Cabinet, on August 16, approved three significant metro rail projects in Karnataka and Maharashtra, with a combined estimated cost of approximately Rs 30,765 crore. This decision is expected to boost urban connectivity and infrastructure development in these states.
Bangalore Metro Phase-3 Expansion

The Cabinet sanctioned two corridors under the Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase-3, with a total project cost of Rs 15,611 crore. The first corridor will extend from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura, featuring 21 stations, while the second will connect Hosahalli to Kadabagere with nine stations. Both corridors are projected to be operational by 2029.
Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project

A green light was also given for the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project, estimated at Rs 12,200 crore. This project will link key areas including Naupada, Wagle Estate, Dongripada, Hiranandani Estate, Kolshet, and Saket, significantly enhancing urban transit in the region.
Pune Metro Phase-1 Extension

The Pune Metro Phase-1 project will be extended southwards from Swargate to Katraj, covering a distance of 5.46 km. The extension, with a total project cost of Rs 2,954.53 crore, is also slated for completion by 2029.
New Civil Enclaves at Bagdogra and Bihta Airports

In addition to the metro projects, the Cabinet approved two new civil enclaves at Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal and Bihta Airport in Patna, Bihar. The Bagdogra project will cost Rs 1,549 crore, including the construction of an apron with 10 parking bays for A-321 type aircraft. The Bihta enclave, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,413 crore, will feature 10 parking bays suitable for A-321, B-737-800, and A-320 type aircraft.
