The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has lifted the user onboarding limit for WhatsApp Pay, allowing the platform to extend its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services to all users across India. The decision, effective immediately, enables WhatsApp Pay to offer seamless digital payment services to its extensive user base in the country.
Previously, WhatsApp Pay was permitted to expand its UPI user base in a phased manner. With the removal of these restrictions, the platform can now onboard users without limitations. WhatsApp Pay will continue adhering to all existing UPI guidelines and regulations applicable to Third Party App Providers (TPAPs).
WhatsApp Pay: How To Join?
To use WhatsApp UPI, users must update their app to the latest version. Additionally, a bank account and active debit card are required for activation.
“To send money on WhatsApp in India, it is necessary to have a bank account and active debit card in the country. WhatsApp facilitates money transfers by sending instructions to banks, known as payment service providers, to initiate UPI transactions between sender and receiver bank accounts,” according to a statement on the platform's blog.
What is NPCI?
