Paytm’s Vijay Shekhar Sharma refers to Taylor Swift to slam ChatGPT

Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the chief executive officer of digital payments platform Paytm, has slammed OpenAI’s popular AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT, in a unique way. He said “ChatGPT is like talking Taylor Swift to grand father who is from Bono and Roger Water era.” He reposted a comparison between the results on the ongoing X versus Brazil topic, generated by ChatGPT and Perplexity AI made by the latter’s CEO Aravind Srinivas.

In his post on X, Sharma wrote: “Chat GPT is like talking Taylor Swift to grand father who is from Bono and Roger Waters era. Perplexity is perpetually intelligent. Then and now.” He supported his view on ChatGPT with a statement where he pointed out why OpenAI’s chatbot lags behind competitors such as Perplexity AI in offering updates on the latest trends. “This is because chat GPT has limit on data mining to a date on its models. So for recent events it won’t be logically good,” he said.

Sharma’s two cents on ChatGPT came in response to Srinivas’ comparison of the two AI chatbots. Perplexity AI’s CEO drew the comparison in response to a user who asked him if there are any “strong reasons” to prefer Perplexity AI over ChatGPT. “Any strong reasons why one should choose perplexity over ChatGPT for search?” he said. Even his response was a plug to another conversation initiated by Chrisman Frank, co-founder and CEO of Synthesis School – an AI-powered online tutor. He said, “I’m late to the party but Perplexity has replaced Google search for me. What’s more, I find myself using search more often. Hadn’t realized I was subconsciously avoiding search because of how awful Google is.”

Srinivas launched Perplexity AI in August 2022 in partnership with Johnny Ho, Denis Yarats, and Andy Konwinski. He previously worked at OpenAI as an AI researcher, while the rest of the co-founders held various AI and engineering roles at Meta, Quora, and Databricks. The company is currently valued at more than $1 billion after the recent round of funding led by former AI head at Y Combinator, Daniel Gross.
