Usha Chilukuri Vance is a 38-year-old American lawyer and the wife of JD Vance, who is Ohio's junior United States Senator and now vice president-elect of the United States. Vance will become the first Indian origin second lady of the U.S.
Her ancestral roots trace to Valudru village in Andhra Pradesh. Her family immigrated 50 years ago to the U.S… and she was born in San Diego. Vance later attended Yale, where she earned a bachelor's degree in history and a law degree from Yale Law School. She met JD Vance during her time at Yale, where they organised a discussion group on social decline in white America, a theme JD Vance has dwelled into in his book titled Hillbilly Elegy.
After law school, Vance served as a law clerk for multiple federal judges, including Judge Brett Kavanaugh, Chief Justice John Roberts, and Judge Amul Thapar. In 2019, Usha Vance was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and went on to work at a prominent law firm, specializing in civil litigation and appeals related to higher education, local government, entertainment, and technology. She resigned from her position at the firm in July 2024.
She delivered the introductory address for her husband, JD Vance, at the 2024 Republican National Convention, and often travelled with him for his campaign events.
