The 13th Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024. He was admitted to AIIMS Delhi late at night on Thursday where his condition was critical.
"With profound grief, we inform the demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had sudden loss of consciousness at home on 26 December 2024, Resuscitative measures were started immediately at home. He was brought to the Medical Emergency at AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 PM. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM," Dr. Rima Dada, Professor In-Charge (Media Cell) of AIIMS Delhi said in an official statement.
Tributes poured in from across sections with the likes of PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, as well as businessmen like Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, condoling the death of the former PM.
A former bureaucrat, who rose to the highest political office in the country, Singh will be remembered for his economic reforms and key decisions such as the Indo-US nuclear deal that he signed with former US President George Bush.
