Robin Uthappa PF Matter: Ex- Cricketer Issues Statement - What's The Case All About?

Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has responded to allegations of his involvement in a Provident Fund (PF) fraud case, asserting that he had no operational role in the companies implicated in the matter. This marks Uthappa's first public statement following the issuance of an arrest warrant against him.

Robin Uthappa PF case: What's the matter all about 

Uthappa, once a director at Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Private Limited, has been accused of failing to deposit employees' PF contributions despite deducting them from salaries. The company allegedly owes Rs 23.36 lakh in damages, prompting authorities to initiate recovery actions. The former cricketer, renowned for his aggressive batting style and dubbed the 'Walking Assassin,' has reportedly been living in Dubai with his family for over a year.

Uthappa clarifies his role

In a detailed statement shared on social media platform X, Uthappa clarified his association with the companies under scrutiny—Strawberry Lenceria Pvt. Ltd., Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt. Ltd., and Berryz Fashion House. He explained that he was appointed as a director in these firms during 2018-19 due to financial loans he provided, but stressed that he had no involvement in their day-to-day operations.

“I did not have an active executive role in these companies, nor was I equipped to oversee their operations due to my commitments as a professional cricketer, TV presenter, and commentator," he stated.

Legal proceedings initiated

Uthappa revealed that the companies failed to repay the loans he extended, prompting him to take legal action. He also clarified that he resigned from all directorship roles in these companies several years ago. Despite providing legal documentation to the PF authorities confirming his lack of operational involvement, proceedings against him have continued.

"When the PF authorities issued notices demanding payments, my legal team responded with evidence proving my non-involvement, including documents from the companies themselves," Uthappa explained.

Next steps in the case

The former cricketer expressed disappointment over the developments and assured that his legal team is working to resolve the matter. "My legal advisors will address this issue appropriately in the coming days," he added.

The case gained further traction with a directive dated December 4, 2024, from Regional Provident Fund Commissioner Shadakshiri Gopala Reddy, instructing the Pulakeshi Nagar Police to arrest Uthappa.

This development has placed the spotlight on Uthappa, who now seeks to clear his name amid the ongoing legal battle.
