The Reserve bank of India, on Tuesday, said in a statement that it has noted that fake videos of the Governor are being circulated on social media.

Recently some videos of the Governor, Shaktikanta Das were seen on social media, wherein he is seen promoting a platform that he has allegedly created in collaboration with Mukesh Ambani so that every Indian could earn money by investing a nominal amount.

In the video Das said, "I personally tested the platform and in 20 days by investing 21,000 rupees, I earned 1.5 million rupees."

Earlier this month, PIB Fact Check had also claimed that this video was fake in a post on X. The post said that this claim is fake and the video featuring RBI Governor has been digitally manipulated along with a fake voiceover.

How To Spot That The Video Is Fake?

  •  In the beginning of the purported video Karan Johar, a filmmaker is seen giving the introduction to the video. Though the voice is his, the accent is a little exaggerated than usual. Additionally, he is on the old sets of Koffee With Karan.
  •  The video comes with a -baity caption saying "How Indians Are Changing Their Lives." Usually, videos with such catch-phrases are misleading or fake.
  •  The footage of Shaktikanta Das speaking has a background that misspells Mukesh Ambani's surname. Further, the format in which his name is displayed is a clear giveaway.

What Does RBI Say?

The RBI said that it has noticed that fake videos of the Governor are being circulated on "social media that claim launch of or support to some investment schemes by the RBI. These videos attempt to advise people to invest their money in such schemes, through use of technological tools."

RBI further claims that its officials are not involved in or support any such activities and that these videos are fake.

"Members of the public are, therefore, cautioned  against engaging with and falling prey to such deepfake videos circulated over social media," it said.
