Ladli Behna Yojana Next Installment: When To Expect Next Payment Of Rs 1,500

The government announced Ladli Behna Yojana, a scheme is aimed at improving the socio-economic status of women, with a focus on improving their health in 2023 January. So far, 18 installments of Rs 1,500 each have been distributed. The next, and 19th instalment of Ladli Behna Yojana is expected between 5th and 10th December 2024. The 18th installment was distributed on the 9th of November 2024. 

Ladli Behna Yojana In The Limelight Again

Eknath Shinde had announced that the amount received under Ladali Behena Yojana will increase from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100 during the Maharashtra 2024 election campaign. Now that Shinde's faction, Mahayuti has won the elections, there is an expectation that the amount will increase soon. It is speculated that the decision to increase the amount will be taken during the winter session to be held in Nagpur after the formation of Maharashtra government.

Who Can Avail?

Women of families who make less than Rs. 2.5 lakh will be given Rs 1,500 every month from July 1, 2024.
 

What Is Ladli Behna Yojana?

According to the National Family Health Survey 5 (2020-21), 23.0 percent of women have a lower than standard body mass index, and the level of anemia among women aged 15 to 49 years was reflected at 54.7 percent.

Keeping in view the above scenario, to ensure economic self-reliance of women in the state, continuous improvement in the health and nutrition level of them and their dependent children and to strengthen their decisive role in the family, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh announced the implementation of the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana’ in Madhya Pradesh on 28 January 2023. Currently, Rs 1250 per month is being given to women under this scheme. This is an important step towards the health and nutrition and economic self-reliance of women.

Presently, in rural areas, while men have 57.7 percent participation, only 23.3 percent women have participated in the labour force. Similarly, in urban areas, only 13.6 percent women have participated in the labour force against 55.9 percent men. This clearly shows that women's participation in labour is less than that of men, which affects their economic self-reliance, the government reported. 

"The implementation of the scheme will not only reflect improvement in the health and nutrition status of women and their dependent children, but women will also be more financially independent than before to spend according to their priorities." says the government of Madhya Pradesh.

With the financial assistance received, women will not only develop self-employment/livelihood resources using locally available resources, but will also be able to play an effective role in their decision-making at the family level.
