The much-awaited inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump , marking his return as the President of the United States, is set to take place today, January 20, 2025. This historic event will see Trump, 78, sworn in as the 47th President, making a comeback four years after leaving the White House in the aftermath of a tumultuous Capitol attack.
When and Where to Watch Trump’s Swearing-In
The inauguration ceremony will begin at 12 PM ET (10:30 PM IST) at the US Capitol. Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the 35-word oath of office to Trump in the Capitol Rotunda, signaling the official start of his second, non-consecutive term.
You can watch the ceremony live on Republic TV. Additionally, the White House will also stream the event live on its official website and social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).
Capitol Rotunda to Host Ceremony Due to Weather
Unprecedented cold weather in Washington, DC, has led to the ceremony being moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda, a venue that hosted Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration in 1985. Trump announced the change on Truth Social, stating, "I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather."
The Weather Channel predicts temperatures to range between 9°F (-13°C) and 24°F (-4.4°C) today, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Snow accumulations of 1-3 inches were reported over the weekend, adding to the logistical challenges, as mentioned in a report by the Guardian..
