After days of getting elected as US President, Donald Trump spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin advising him not to escalate the war in Ukraine, according to media reports.
Washington's Military Presence In Europe
Trump also reminded Putin of Washington's strong military presence in Europe, according to The Washington Post. He made the call from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Thursday.
Ukrainian Conflict
Trump also showed a keen interest in negotiating the resolution of the war with Ukraine.
In the war between Russia and Ukraine, the US is seen as the only country that can resolve this conflict. Trump being the President-elect is casting doubts on Washington's financial support to Kyiv.
Ukraine's Musk-Trump Connection
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine had spoken with Donald trump, earlier on Wednesday and Elon Musk had also joined that call. Later Zelensky confirmed that Trump has agreed to advance cooperation.
Biden's Take
Joe Biden's administration, however, has confirmed that it will send as much aid as possible to Ukraine before Trump takes office on January 20.
Where Does Russia Stand Now?
Earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin had called Donald Trump upon his victory to congratulate him. This was Russia's attempt to restore relations with the US.
There is a high likelihood amongst the reshuffling of power positions in the world, that Trump will join hands with Russia once he takes office as he is not too keen on a fresh crisis in Ukraine at the very beginning of his term.
Additionally, Putin has also opened up in saying that he is ready to restore relations and engage in discussions if Trump expresses interest.
