Stock Market LIVE: Sensex Closes Flat, Nifty Below 23,800

The Sensex closed at 78,472.48, remaining unchanged with a 0.00% change, after opening at 78,557.28. Top gainers include Adani Ports, M&M, Maruti, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, and HCL Tech, while top losers are Infosys, HUL, Axis Bank, TCS, NTPC, Zomato, Nestle India, and Titan.

The Nifty closed at 23,762.80, up by 35.15 points (0.15%), after opening at 23,775.80. The top gainers for the day are Adani Ports, M&M, SBI Life, Maruti, and Suryoday Small Finance Bank, with Asian Paints, Titan, JSW Steel, Grasim, and Nestle India as the major losers.

Amid ongoing stock market volatility, over 35 lakh new investors entered the stock markets in November, according to a report by the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

As per the market tracker website, today the Unimech Aerospace IPO stands at Rs 630. with price band of 785, the estimated listing price is at Rs 1415. the expected percentage of gain is at 80.25%

The board of Redtape has proposed issuing bonus shares in the ratio of 3:1, subject to shareholder approval. This means shareholders will receive three fully paid-up equity shares of Rs 2 each for every one existing share of Rs 2.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has granted Aptus Value Housing Finance India Limited a certificate of registration, dated December 24, 2024. The certification designates the company as a Corporate Agent (Composite) under the IRDAI (Registration of Corporate Agents) Regulations, 2015.

MobiKwik, which got listed on December 18, saw its shares soar by 13% today. The stock, which closed at Rs 609.15 previously, opened at Rs 598.90 and reached an intra-day high of Rs 698.30, marking its highest point in the past 52 weeks.

Goa Carbon has announced a temporary shutdown of its Goa unit for maintenance work, which will commence on December 25.

Emkay Global has maintained a ‘Buy’ rating for Vedanta’s stock following the revised demerger plan. The brokerage predicts a potential upside of 26.11 per cent, maintaining a target price of Rs 600. At present, Vedanta’s shares are trading at Rs 461.40, making the stock an attractive proposition for investors eyeing medium-term growth.

Shares of Ceigall India Limited saw a surge, reaching Rs 366 in morning trade on December 26, following the announcement that its subsidiary, Ludhiana Bathinda Greenfield Highway, had signed a Concession Agreement with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The Rs 981 crore project is expected to be completed within 24 months, after which it will be operated by the company.

After opening slightly higher today at 78,557.28, the Sensex rose by nearly 300 points in early trade. However, it has since taken a different direction and is now trading at 78,448.40, down by 24.47 points or 0.03%. Top gainers include Maruti, Adani Ports, Power Grid, Titan, Sun Pharma, and Tata Motors, while the top losers are HUL, Infosys, Reliance, Zomato, Tata Steel, and L&T.

 Ola Electric's stock surged by over 6% after the company revealed its plans for a record expansion to 4,000 stores across the country.

 Reliance Power announced that the High Court has granted interim relief to Reliance NU BESS, resulting in a 1% increase in the company's stock price.

UltraTech Cement has entered into an Energy Supply Agreement and a Share Subscription and Shareholders Agreement to acquire a 26% equity stake in Clean Max Sapphire, a renewable energy generation and transmission company. The move aligns with UltraTech's goals of fulfilling its green energy needs, optimizing energy costs, and adhering to regulatory requirements for captive power consumption. Additionally, UltraTech has completed the acquisition of a 32.72% stake in The India Cements, raising its total shareholding to 55.49%, making India Cements a subsidiary.

Panacea Biotec has been awarded a Letter of Award from UNICEF for the supply of 115 million doses of its bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV), valued at USD 14.95 million (approximately Rs 127 crore), for the calendar year 2025.

Today, the Indian stock markets opened on a positive note with the Sensex rising by 247.96 points or 0.32% to 78,720.83, and the Nifty gaining 68.55 points or 0.29% to 23,796.20. Among the top gainers were ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, SBI, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Maruti Suzuki, while TCS, Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, HUL, and Shriram Finance saw losses. Market breadth was positive, with 1,674 shares advancing, 857 declining, and 182 remaining unchanged.

The Indian rupee opened at a fresh record low of 85.22 per dollar on Thursday, compared to Tuesday's close of 85.20.

Benchmark indices are trading flat in the pre-opening session. 

East Pipes Integrated Company for Industry (EPIC), an associate of Welspun Corp and a leading manufacturer of HSAW pipes in Saudi Arabia, has signed multiple contracts with Saudi Real Estate Infrastructure Company (Binyah) and AI Rashid Trading and Contracting Company. The contracts, valued at over SAR 57 million (approximately Rs 130 crore), involve the manufacturing, supply, and coating of steel pipes, with a contract duration of seven months.

France's Agence Nationale de Sécurité du Médicament et des Produits de Santé (ANSM) recently conducted a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) inspection at Cenexi's Fontenay facility, a subsidiary of Gland Pharma. The inspection, which took place from December 9 to 19, led to 10 observations. Cenexi has pledged to collaborate with ANSM to resolve these issues.

Billionbrains Garage Ventures, the parent company of Groww, along with Zerodha's Rainmatter Investments, Securocorp Securities India, and Share India Securities, will jointly invest ₹238 crore in the Metropolitan Stock Exchange.

On Tuesday, National Aluminium Company (NALCO) has signed a mining lease deed with the District Collector of Angul for the Utkal-D and Utkal-E coal blocks. This agreement is set to increase coal production capacity to 4.0 MTPA, strengthening fuel security for the company’s captive power plant. The lease deed is valid until April 21, 2051.

Today, BPCL shares will be in focus as on Tuesday, the company has approved pre-project activities for setting up a state-of-the-art greenfield refinery and petrochemical complex in Andhra Pradesh. The estimated investment for this ambitious project stands at Rs 6,100 crore.

Shares of Bharat Forge are likely to attract attention today following the company’s announcement of a planned investment of Euro 39 million (Rs 345 crore) in its wholly-owned subsidiary, Bharat Forge Global Holding GmbH (BFGH).

Suzlon Energy Ltd announced it has been penalised Rs 20 lakh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Hyderabad for delays in realising export proceeds related to shipments made until the financial year 2016-17.  

Ola Electric said on Wednesday that it has expanded its network to 4,000 stores across the country.

Earlier in December, Bhavish Aggarwal, the Chief Executive Officer of the company had taken to X to express that the firm will take the electric revolution to the next level this month.

The company has grown four times its initial size, as it started with 800 stores and has now gone up to 4,000 stores this month itself.

Asia-Pacific markets mostly edged higher on Thursday, though several key markets remained shut for the Boxing Day holiday.

Japan's major indices posted gains, buoyed by news of a record national budget proposal aimed at addressing rising social security and debt expenses. South Korea's markets also saw modest increases, with both its main index and tech-heavy board moving upward.

Meanwhile, China's key index traded slightly below the flatline, reflecting a more cautious sentiment. Markets in Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong stayed closed for the holiday.

GIFT Nifty on the NSE IX traded down slightly by 0.05%, hinting at a subdued start for Dalal Street on Thursday. The index was marginally lower by around 12 points, hovering near the 23,800 mark.

Markets extended their winning streak on Tuesday, marking back-to-back gains during the holiday week. The S&P 500 saw a notable increase, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq Composite also finishing the session higher.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq led the pack, driven by a significant surge in Tesla shares, which soared over 7%. Other tech giants like Amazon and Meta Platforms also posted gains of more than 1% each, further fueling the rally. Markets closed early for the holiday, with trading resuming after Christmas break.

Markets remained closed on Wednesday due to a Christmas 

On Tuesday, the Sensex ended lower by 67.30 points (-0.09%) to close at 78,472.87, weighed down by losses in select heavyweight stocks. Tata Motors, ITC, Nestle India, NTPC, and TCS emerged as the top gainers on the index. However, the session saw declines in PowerGrid, SBI, Infosys, Titan, and Tata Steel, which dragged the market lower.

The Nifty also closed in the red, shedding 25.80 points (-0.11%) to settle at 23,727.65. Gainers on the index included Tata Motors, Adani FNT, Eicher Motors, Nestle India, and BPCL, while PowerGrid, JSW Steel, SBI Life, Titan, and Infosys were among the top laggards.
