Counterfeit currency: According to a recent Gujarati media report, Ahmedabad Police seized fake notes worth Rs 1.60 crore bearing this unusual image. Instead of having the image of Mahatma Gandhi, the Rs 500 notes featured Bollywood actor Anupam Kher’s photos.
The unidentified persons were detained by the police for handing over fake notes and duped the bullion firm owner with Rs 1.6 crore worth of counterfeit notes in a gold purchase.
Additionally, the notes had "Resole Bank of India" printed on them instead of the correct "Reserve Bank of India."
Images of the counterfeit notes quickly went viral on social media, sparking a mix of shock and amusement.
In a separate incident, a counterfeit currency manufacturing unit was busted in Surat, Gujarat. The operation, which was functioning under the guise of an online garment business, led to the arrest of four individuals on September 22. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajdeep Nakum revealed that the accused were allegedly inspired by the web series Farzi, which centres on a con artist who counterfeits currency.
The Surat Special Operations Group (SOG) raided the office in the Sarthana area, seizing high-quality counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs 1.20 lakh. Three individuals were apprehended during the raid, with a fourth arrested later. According to police reports, the accused had rented the office space specifically for their illegal activities. The SOG team had been monitoring the location closely before conducting the operation.
