1-2 Degrees Colder Winter? IMD Weather Forecast For This Week

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecast a further drop of 1-2 degree Celsius in Delhi's temperatures, attributing the change to prevailing northwesterly winds. Severe cold waves have already gripped Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, with conditions expected to persist across North and Central India for another one to two days.

Speaking to ANI, IMD scientist Dr Soma Sen Roy explained, “In Delhi, northwesterly winds are blowing, and southeasterly winds will soon take over in North India. There is a possibility of a 1-2 degree Celsius drop in temperature in Delhi. Severe cold waves have been recorded in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.”

Severe Cold Wave Conditions Observed
Dr Roy highlighted that Punjab and Madhya Pradesh are experiencing severe cold waves. 

She added, "The cold wave will last for one to two days in North and Central India. There is a possibility of an increase in temperature by December 16-17."

Delhi experienced a significant drop in temperature today, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a maximum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature recorded a chilly 8 degrees Celsius. 

In contrast, Thursday saw Delhi’s coldest morning of the season so far, with the minimum temperature plummeting to 4.5 degrees Celsius. The sharp dip in the early morning temperature was accompanied by a relatively moderate maximum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, as per the report by IMD.
