At a time, when even the big corporate giants are scrapping work from home, Tesla CEO, Elon Musk endorsed his old post on X which mandated his employees to work from home. On X Chrish Hladczuk, CEO of Hanovar took to X and posted an Elon Musk post with the caption, “ Elon Musk on why remote work is poison.” This post by Chris was endorsed by Musk again on Monday.
What Was The Musk Post?
CEO Elon Musk had mandated that all employees return to the office. Musk sent two emails to his staff, outlining new expectations for office attendance. In the first email, Musk stated that anyone wishing to work remotely must commit to a minimum of 40 hours per week at a Tesla office. He emphasised that this was less than the hours expected of factory workers and warned that those who could not meet the requirement should "depart Tesla."
The second email, sent shortly after, reiterated the 40-hour office rule and made it clear that the office in question must be a primary Tesla location, not a remote branch office. Musk also stressed that senior employees must be highly visible, stating that his presence in the factory had been key to the company's success. He explained that had he not worked alongside factory employees, Tesla could have faced bankruptcy.
Musk justified the strict return-to-office policy by comparing Tesla’s rigorous work culture to that of other companies, pointing out that many competitors have failed to deliver new, innovative products. He argued that Tesla’s success in creating groundbreaking technology would not continue if employees were not fully dedicated to working in the office.
The emails, which were intended to be confidential, were leaked and have since sparked mixed reactions among employees. While some support Musk’s vision for the company’s future, others may feel uneasy about the increased demands for in-office work. The company’s commitment to a rigorous in-person work culture signals a shift back to pre-pandemic norms, as more businesses worldwide adjust to post-pandemic operations.
