C-segment sedans: The C-segment sedans in India have seen major players like Skoda and Volkswagen enter the segment and intensify the competition. This segment has seen a decline in sales due to the surge in sales of compact SUVs, which offer higher ground clearance and better road presence. Despite this, India’s leading auto manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Honda Cars offer their sedans in this segment. Majorly these sedans are offered with a petrol engine since the diesel engines have been dropped by the auto manufacturers. Planning to buy a C-segment sedan, let us have a look at the top three sedans under Rs 15 lakh in India:
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the most affordable C-segment sedan in its segment. The Ciaz is offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that churns out 105 BHP and 135 Nm torque, mated to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. and offers decent features on its sleeves. The Ciaz offers a comfortable cabin with decent driving dynamics and offers a fuel-efficient engine as well. The Ciaz is offered in four variants and it is one of the underrated sedans in its segment. The price of the Ciaz starts at Rs 9.40 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base Sigma variant.
Honda City
The Honda City is one of the oldest sedans in the segment being on sale for more than a decade. The Honda City is a complete balance of performance from its VTEC engine and the comfort offered from the rear seats. The Honda City is offered with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 121 BHP and 145 Nm torque, mated to a six-speed manual or a CVT transmission option. It is the only sedan in the segment that offers a hybrid option as well. The Honda City is offered in four variants and the price starts at Rs 11.38 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base SV variant.
Hyundai Verna
The Hyundai Verna has recently received a facelift in 2023, wherein it got updated from the exteriors, and interiors and dropped the diesel engine and got a powerful turbo petrol engine. Under the Rs 15 lakh budget, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is offered, which produces 115 BHP and 143 Nm torque, mated to a six-speed manual or an iVT transmission. The Verna has scored five stars in the Global NCAP crash test. The Hyundai Verna is offered in six variants, and the price starts at Rs 11.00 lakh (ex-showroom) for the EX variant.
