Hyundai vs Tata Motors: Hyundai Motors India has recently launched the Hy-CNG, the dual-cylinder version of the Aura, which is the sub-4m compact sedan at Rs 7.48 lakh (ex-showroom). The Hyundai Aura is now available to customers in both single and dual-cylinder CNG options. The Aura mainly rivals the Tata Tigor iCNG in the segment, the first sub-4m compact sedan equipped with dual-cylinder technology. Let us have a look at both these sedans and check which of these is better:

Price:

Hyundai has introduced the Hy-CNG variant in the base model of the Aura, which is priced at Rs 7.48 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model E variant. On the other hand, Tata Tigor iCNG starts from its mid-model, starting at Rs 7.74 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base XM variant.

Exterior design:

The design of the Hyundai Aura Hy-CNG and the Tata Tigor iCNG are quite different from the front. Both the sedans are under the sub-4m category, so they have similar proportions. The Tata Tigor iCNG has 14-inch wheels on the lower trims, but the Hyundai Aura Hy-CNG variant comes with 15-inch wheels. The boot space on both, the Aura Hy-CNG and the Tigor iCNG have similar space utilisation.

Interiors ambiance:

The interiors of the Hyundai Aura Hy-CNG and the Tata Tigor iCNG are quite different. The Hyundai Aura offers a spacious cabin with a decent feature list on the E variant. It offers an analogue instrument cluster and an old-school infotainment system. On the other hand, the Tigor iCNG offers dual-tone interiors and a similar feature list. Tigor iCNG offers a digital instrument cluster and a touch capacitive infotainment system from Harman.

The rear seat space on the Hyundai Aura is slightly better than the Tata Tigor. The seating comfort on both the sedans is similar. The rear AC vents are offered on both sedans for the rear seat passengers.

Engine specifications:

The Hyundai Aura Hy-CNG and the Tata Tigor iCNG come with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, but the power output and the engine cylinders differ which changes the customer experience altogether.

The Hyundai Aura Hy-CNG is offered with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 69 BHP and 95 Nm torque, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Tata Tigor iCNG also offers a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that churns out 72 BHP and 95 Nm torque, mated to a five-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Tata Tigor iCNG is the only sedan in the segment which is offered with an AMT transmission as well as a CNG powertrain.

The cabin experience of the Hyundai Aura Hy-CNG is slightly better as compared to the Tata Tigor iCNG as the three-cylinder vibrations are quite evident in the Tigor. The Hyundai Aura Hy-CNG has a claimed fuel efficiency of 28.4 km/kg and the Tata Tigor iCNG also has a similar 28.06 km/kg fuel efficiency.

Result:

The Hyundai’s effort in the CNG segment showcases the manufacturer's efforts towards the growing demand for CNG vehicles. The Hy-CNG variant of the Aura is only offered on the base model, and the Tigor iCNG variant is available across the lineup. Both the CNG sedans offer decent fuel efficiency but the cabin experience of the Hyundai Aura is slightly better.
