Reliance Jio has completed the rollout of its 5G services, called Jio True 5G, throughout India. In his keynote speech at the Reliance Industries' 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that the completion of the telecom company's 5G services also marks the milestone of reaching over 130 million customers with access to 5G services. Jio True 5G is available in over 7,700 cities and towns, making India the world's largest data market.
“Jio True 5G now reaches every corner of India,” said Ambani while speaking to the shareholders. “Jio True 5G has also achieved the world’s fastest 5G adoption. In just two years, over 130 million customers have embraced Jio True 5G.”
According to the company, the fast adoption of Jio's 5G services has opened up the company's 4G network, offering 2G customers a room to jump on to the 4G network to experience better cellular connectivity. This is fueled by the company's JioBharat initiative under which the company launches entry-level 4G phones at prices lower than 2G phones.
“For many 2G users, JioBharat is their first step into digital services. And today, nearly half of 2G customers upgrading their devices choose JioBharat, demonstrating the unmatched value of Jio’s offerings,” he said in his keynote speech.
He highlighted that Jio's network carries around 8 percent of global mobile traffic, exceeding major global operators, “including those in developed markets.” Over 85 per cent of 5G radio cells operating in India belong to Jio, offering ”widest covergae and the highest quality network."
The company has also announced it is investing more into the development of artificial intelligence, which will both help Jio's network to grow and consumers to find useful tools on their personal and enterprise machines, including Jio's smartphones and new operating system, Jio TvOS, for smart televisions.
“We have rapidly augmented our talent and capabilities, embracing the latest in Generative AI. And we are embedding AI into all our processes and offerings, creating end-to-end workflows with real-time, data-driven insights and automation. This is helping us deliver smarter, more responsive services, to both internal users and customers.”
