PM Modi in Singapore: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, visited AEM, a Singaporean semicon and electronics major. During the visit, the leaders were briefed on AEM's role in the global semiconductor supply chain, its operations, and its plans for India. The Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association also provided an overview of Singapore's semiconductor ecosystem and explored opportunities for collaboration with India.
Several other Singaporean companies from the semiconductor sector were present at the briefing. Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Singaporean semiconductor firms to participate in the upcoming Semicon India exhibition, scheduled to take place in Greater Noida from 11-13 September 2024.
As both nations work to strengthen their semiconductor manufacturing ecosystems, India and Singapore have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in this sector. During the 2nd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, the two countries decided to include advanced manufacturing, with a focus on semiconductors, as a key pillar of their collaboration. Additionally, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership.
During the visit, the Prime Ministers also interacted with Indian interns from Odisha's World Skill Centre, currently training in Singapore, as well as Singaporean interns who had visited India through the CII-Enterprise Singapore India Ready Talent Programme. Indian engineers working at AEM also participated in the interaction.
The joint visit highlights the commitment of both nations to expanding cooperation in the semiconductor industry. Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Wong for accompanying him on the visit.
