The government has come up with an Anti piracy challenge to focus on emerging technologies to combat piracy in the media and entertainment sector. The challenge was launched on September 12, 2024 which extended the submission deadline to February 10, 2025.
“The competition aims to encourage and promote innovative solutions developed by homegrown companies in the fields of fingerprinting and watermarking technologies”, PTI said.
Anti- Piracy Challenge: Details
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting presents the Create in India Challenge, Season 1, which consists of 25 unique tasks designed to test the limits of creativity and technology, as part of WAVES's (World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit ) broader purpose to promote innovation, encourage challenge, and protect the creative economy. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has given CII the task of organising the Anti-Piracy Challenge, one of the most significant of these challenges. It focusses on new technologies to fight media and entertainment industry piracy.
Anti- Piracy Challenge: Objective
This competition aims to encourage and promote innovative solutions developed by homegrown companies in the fields of fingerprinting and watermarking technologies. By fostering local innovation, the competition seeks to:
- Provide a platform for domestic companies to showcase their solutions and gain industry recognition.
- Encourage the development of novel techniques that enhance the security and traceability of digital media.
- Promote practical applications that can be seamlessly integrated into existing media workflows.
- Support the growth of new technologies addressing current and emerging challenges in content protection
Anti- Piracy Challenge: Eligibility
Anyone with knowledge or interest in digital content security, including individuals, research teams, startups, and established organisations, is eligible to enter the competition.
Submissions must include a functional prototype of the technology that demonstrates its fundamental usefulness and potential for practical use.
Submission Categories For Challenge
Participants can submit entries in the following categories:
- Fingerprinting Technologies: Innovative solutions for identifying and tracking digital content using unique, invisible markers.
- Watermarking Technologies: Techniques for embedding information within digital content to assert ownership and trace its distribution.
- Others: Includes emerging technologies such as blockchain and digital rights management (DRM).
