X now lets you edit your DMs: How to use this feature

X gets DM editing feature: X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has launched a much-awaited feature for its users. The company has announced that it is bringing the ability to edit direct messages or DM to its mobile app.

X's DM editing feature lets its users to edit their messages once they have been shared with the recipient. This feature is quite similar to the message editing feature offered by other messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Apple's iMessages. However, unlike these messaging apps, there is no time limit until when users can make changes to the messages that they have shared on the platform.

Sharing the details in a support document, X (formerly Twitter), said that users can edit their messages at any time after they have been sent. "There's no deadline for when you can make changes," the company wrote. However, users can only make up to five edits to a message. X says that this has been done to "ensure that the conversation remains coherent and prevents excessive revisions". This also means that X users can also edit their older messages.

The company also said that on Android and Web, the recipient will receive a new message that contains the latest version of the message but it will be prefixed with the word 'edited'. On iOS, the recipient will only receive the edited message if they have not yet seen the original message.

"While you can edit the content, the original timestamp of the message remains unchanged," the company wrote in its support document while adding, "Any reactions or replies to the original message will not be affected by edits."

As far as the availability is concerned, X said that it has rolled out its DM Editing feature to iOS users. Android and Web users will get this feature soon.

How to edit a DM in X

Here's a step-by-step guide of how users can edit a direct message in X:

Step 1: Update the X app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Open the X app on your iPhone.

Step 3: Find the DM you want to edit in the conversation thread.

Step 4: on the three dots next to the message that you want to edit.

Step 5: Select the 'Edit' option.

Step 6: Make changes to your message in the space provided.

Step 7: Tap the 'Save' button to save the changes that you made to the message.
