Amazon India expects the exports from Indian sellers to cross the $13 billion mark by the end of 2024, the company said today. The company launched the Amazon Global Selling Programme in India back in 2024. Since then it has enabled nearly 1,50,000 sellers in India to export their products across over 18 international Amazon sites.
This a part of Amazon's plans of enabling exports worth $20 billion from Indian sellers by the end of 2025.
Amazon is also investing in tools and technologies in order to help exporters from Indian small and medium enterprises to increase their sales globally.
"We’re investing significantly in tools and technologies to help sellers optimise their reach, enhance product discovery, and increase sales," Bhupen Wakankar, Director Global Trade, Amazon India, said in a statement today.
"We will continue to support the growth of small businesses and startups by leveraging technology and strong linkages with different stakeholders. Amazon is committed to enabling $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports from India by 2025," he added.
India's global ambitions
Amazon India also shared details as to how sellers from small towns and cities in India were exporting goods to global markets including the customers in North America, Europe, Australia, and Middle East.
For instances, MSMEs from Anand in Gujarat exported goods worth $89 million, while sellers from Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh have exported goods worth $47 million. Similarly, sellers from Panipat in Haryana and Moradabad in UP have exported goods worth $23 million and $14 million respectively.
The company also revealed that product categories such as home, apparel, beauty, health and personal care, and toys have recorded export growth of 20-40 percent year-on-year.
Additionally, Indian exporters recorded a business growth of over 80 percent during Amazon's Black Friday sales and Cyber Monday sales in 2023, compared to business as usual days the company revealed.
India vs China
Amazon, in addition to helping exporters increase their sales in global markets, is also planning to increase the sales of small-tickets items from India. According to a Reuters report, the company plans to export $5 billion of small-ticket items from India in 2024, which is more than $3 billion worth of goods that the company exported in 2023.
"India is naturally one of the largest sources of selection for Amazon," Wakankar told the publication.
