Pune Metro Phase 2: Check Completion Date, Route, Budget, Latest Update
The Pune Municipal Corporation has submitted its detailed project report on Phase 2 to the state and Central governments.

The Maharashtra government has sanctioned Phase 2 of the Pune Metro, which covers two major routes and several extensions to Phase 1. A general consultant with technical experience will be appointed to oversee the implementation of this ambitious project as there is a shortage of technical staff at Pune Metro.
Pune Metro: Details of Phase 2
Phase 2 covers four routes, with two major ones getting sanctioned:
Khadakwasla to Kharadi (via Swargate and Hadapsar)
Length: 25.8 km
Stations: 22
Cost Estimation: Rs 8,131 crore
Nal Stop to Manik Baug (via Warje)
Length: 6 km
Stations: 6
Cost Estimation: Rs 1,765 crore
Other routes are still awaiting sanction
Vanaz to Chandni Chowk (1.1 km)
Ramwadi to Wagholi (11.6 km)
The estimated cost of Phase 2 will be Rs 9,897 crore. The project is awaiting approval from the Central government to initiate the actual work.
Phase 1 of the Pune Metro is functional. The completed areas are
Vanaz to Ramwadi (Aqua Line)
PCMC to Swargate (Purple Line)
Extensions from Swargate to Katraj and PCMC to Nigdi are in progress. However, work on Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi is still awaiting Central approval.
Pune Metro: Consultant's Role
The selected agency will:
- Oversee and ensure quality at all stages from design to construction and testing.
- Train Metro personnel for operations and maintenance.
- Coordinate with the Commissioner of Railway Safety and get necessary approvals.
- Ensure completion and commissioning of each section in time.
Pune Metro: What Next
The Pune Municipal Corporation has submitted its detailed project report on Phase 2 to the state and Central governments. Only then will it take the step of implementation after receiving the Centre's nod.
This new development for Pune's urban transit promises better connectivity and better infrastructure for the residents.
