Will Jerome Powell-Led Fed Reserve Revise Rate?
There is widespread agreement among economists and in the markets that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates at its policy meeting on Wednesday, according to a Bloomberg report.
The rate cut will also be accompanied by forward guidance suggesting fewer cuts in the coming year than previously indicated, a higher terminal rate and a pause in January, as per reports.
Additionally, there is a lot beyond this that will depend on the evolution of Fed thinking about an inflation rate that is proving to be sticky above its 2 per cent target.
The markets are pricing in a more than 90 per cent probability of a 0.25-percentage-point cut in the Fed funds rate this week. In addition to that, Jerome Powell will not close off his options for January completely, according to reports.
Why Did India Bonds Yield Rise?
Indian government's bond yields rose rose on Tuesday, with the benchmark yield inching above the key 6.75 per cent level, after the rupee fell to yet another record low and as investors braced for the Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting, a Reuters report said. "There is some caution ahead of the Fed decision tomorrow. Also, the constant decline in the local currency is hurting overall investor sentiment," said Gopal Tripathi, head of treasury and capital markets at Jana Small Finance Bank.
