'Accidental Prime Minister'? Manmohan Singh's Humorous Take - Video
He said that he was not only an ‘accidental prime minister’ of India but also the country’s accidental ‘finance minister.’

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26, was an acclaimed thinker, economist and scholar who ushered in a comprehensive policy of economic reforms and steered the country for 10 years as the head of Congress-led UPA government. And while the critiques of Manmohan Singh continue to slam the late PM for being a ‘remote-control’ PM, Singh himself had, once mischievously admitted that he was an ‘accidental prime minister’.
After the launch of his book ‘Changing India’, he had mischievously said that he was not only an ‘accidental prime minister’ of India but also the country’s accidental ‘finance minister.’
Dr Manmohan Singh Recalled Happier Days
Talking about his inception as the finance minister, Dr Manmohan Singh said in a video posted by ANI, "Narasimha Rao ji said no you get dressed up and come in for the swearing-in ceremony. So that's how I became the finance minister." He humorously added, "People say I was accidental prime minister, I was also accidental finance minister."
He further recalled an interaction with Narasimha Rao, wherein he said that the country is in great difficulty, it needs hard thinking and tough decision-making.
Dr Manmohan Singh Passes Away
Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's last rites were performed on December 28 at Delhi's Nigambodh Ghat.
Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, a respected leader and economist, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He had been admitted to AIIMS Delhi in critical condition and passed at 9:51 PM.
Known for his transformative economic reforms, Dr. Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year after 33 years of service. Leaders from across the political spectrum, including PM Narendra Modi , paid their respects.
