EPFO members can now update personal details like name, date of birth, gender, and marital status online without employer verification or EPFO approval. This facility, launched by Union Labour & Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, is available for members with UANs issued after October 1, 2017, when Aadhaar linkage became mandatory. For older UANs, corrections can still be made by employers without EPFO approval, simplifying the process further.
Simplified EPF Account Transfers
EPFO members with Aadhaar-seeded e-KYC accounts can now transfer EPF accounts directly using Aadhaar OTP. This eliminates the need for employer intervention, significantly reducing processing time. Over 94% of claims filed in FY 2024-25 are expected to reach EPFO instantly through this system, addressing delays and reducing grievances.
EPFO: Grievances and Pending Requests
The new services aim to reduce member grievances, which largely stem from KYC and transfer-related issues. Members with pending requests can delete their previous submissions and use the simplified process for immediate approval. This will benefit 3.9 lakh pending requests and improve turnaround times for 45% of cases through self-correction and another 50% via employers.
Large employers with significant workloads will experience reduced burdens with the simplified processes. The average time for employer verification, which previously took 28 days in many cases, will decrease substantially. The EPFO’s internal systems are also being upgraded to expedite claim processing, bringing services closer to banking-level efficiency.
EPFO: Addressing Transfer Claim Delays
Previously, EPF account transfers required employer verification, averaging 12-13 days. Over the last nine months, 20 lakh claims remained pending with employers for more than 15 days. The new system bypasses employer delays, allowing members to directly submit transfer claims to EPFO, streamlining the entire process.
These changes simplify EPFO services, reduce delays, and minimize grievances, benefiting over 7.6 crore members and easing workloads for employers. The ministry’s efforts aim to modernize EPFO services, enhancing user experience and operational efficiency.
