Asia-Pacific Markets Rally Amid Optimistic Global Sentiment
Asia-Pacific markets climbed on Thursday, bolstered by a rally in U.S. markets following a surprising dip in core inflation figures for December and robust earnings from major banks.
South Korea’s Kospi and Kosdaq posted solid gains after the country’s central bank unexpectedly held benchmark rates steady. This decision defied market expectations, keeping rates unchanged at 3%.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 and the Topix advanced moderately as investors digested December's annual producer price index, which rose in line with expectations.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index saw a strong start to the session, while mainland China’s CSI 300 also edged higher.
Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 followed the region's upward trend, closing with a notable gain, reflecting the overall positive momentum across the Asia-Pacific region.

Market Rally Fueled by Optimistic Inflation Data and Bank Earnings
Stocks surged on Wednesday trading as a moderate improvement in December’s core inflation data and robust earnings from major banks lifted investor sentiment. The Dow saw a significant boost, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq posted solid gains. The Nasdaq outperformed, with tech and speculative stocks leading the rally. Meanwhile, the Russell 2000, representing small caps, also advanced notably.
The bond market responded as well, with the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield retreating sharply after hitting its highest level in over a year earlier this week. It hovered at a more subdued level by the end of the session.
Among individual performers, Tesla and Nvidia were standout gainers, climbing significantly, while Bitcoin briefly crossed a key psychological level, fueling excitement in the cryptocurrency space.
Looking ahead, Wall Street’s focus shifts to Thursday’s retail sales data and weekly jobless claims. December’s retail sales are anticipated to show a modest increase compared to the previous month. Additionally, earnings reports from Morgan Stanley and Bank of America will cap off the big bank reporting season.
