Vikram Chopra, the CEO of Cars24, an online marketplace for old cars, has stirred some controversy on social media with a viral job post.
A graphic that Chopra included in his article rekindled the long-standing rivalry between Bengaluru and Delhi.
“We are not saying Delhi NCR is better. Only that it really is,” he said in the caption.
The image itself alluded to the recent Bengaluru language controversy, saying “Still can’t speak Kannada after years in Bengaluru? It’s OK. Aa jao Dilli. We are looking for engineers who wish to stay close to home.” Along with it, Chopra also provided the contact details for prospective applicants.
After the post received more than 4 lakh views, people on social media discussed the consequences of regional prejudices in professional hiring messages.
He sarcastically responded to a user's long-held opinion about Delhi, stating that the city is home to the most challenging individuals.
One user commented, “Now this will make news. People in the south will get hurt and debate will open. Another marketing tactic.”
Another criticised Delhi citing the toxic AQI saying, “Meri jaan feels attacked now.”
Some users appreciated the move, urging Chopra to decongest Bengaluru. “ TYSM for taking efforts to decongest Bengaluru. Please ask your business friends also to do the same.”
Another remarked, “I don’t think any Indian metro city is worth hyping up. You could hype up the people and the culture, but not the city. That’s where Bangalore actually wins and Delhi loses.”
