PM Modi's Metro Mania: Launch Of Projects Worth Rs 12,000 Crore, See List

PM Modi, on Monday, digitally launched multiple railway projects via video conferencing. In a key move to further boost connectivity in the region, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new Jammu Railway Division. He also inaugurated the Charlapalli New Terminal Station in Telangana and laid the foundation stone of the Rayagada Railway Division Building of East Coast Railway.

PM Modi Launches Multiple Metro Projects

PM Modi announced on X that, “We are committed to further improving rail connectivity across the country, including Jammu-Kashmir, Odisha and Telangana. In this connection, I will have the privilege of inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of several railway projects through video conferencing today at around 12.30 pm.”

Prime Minister inaugurated the new Jammu Railway Division. He will also inaugurate the Charlapalli New Terminal Station in Telangana and lay the foundation stone of the Rayagada Railway Division Building of East Coast Railway.

Creation of the Jammu Railway Division, with 742.1 KM comprising Pathankot - Jammu - Udhampur - Srinagar - Baramulla, Bhogpur Sirwal - Pathankot, Batala - Pathankot and Pathankot to Joginder Nagar sections, will significantly benefit Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding regions, fulfilling the long pending aspiration of the people and improving connectivity to other parts of India. It will create employment opportunities, and infrastructure development, promote tourism, and lead to the overall socio-economic development of the region.

Charlapalli New Terminal Station in the Medchal-Malkajgiri District of Telangana has been developed as a new coaching terminal along with the provision of a second entry with a cost of around Rs 413 crore. This environment-friendly terminal, having good passenger amenities, will ease congestion on the existing coaching terminals in the city like Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda.

During the launch event, PM Modi said, “Demand for high-speed trains rising, time not far when first bullet train will run in India.”

Ø Under-Water Metro: In 2024, PM Modi inaugurated India’s first underwater metro tunnel in Kolkata, where the Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section passes beneath the Hooghly River. This remarkable feat showcases India’s engineering capabilities.

Ø Driverless Metro: On December 28, 2020, India launched its first-ever driverless metro service on Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line, setting a new benchmark for automation in public transport.

Ø Kochi Water Metro: Kochi, Kerala, became the first city in India to launch a Water Metro Project, connecting 10 islands around the city with electric hybrid boats. This groundbreaking initiative ensures seamless connectivity, with the first boat launched in December 2021.

Ø Approval of three Metro Rail Projects:

·         Bengaluru Metro Project:  44 km expansion comprising two corridors.

·         Thane Metro Project: 29 km network aimed at reducing congestion on the roads of Thane.

·         Pune Metro Project: A 5.5 km route to further improve urban mobility in the city.
