In a remarkable meeting on Wednesday, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani hosted 18-year-old D Gukesh, the youngest world chess champion, at Ahmedabad.
Gukesh made history in December by defeating China’s Ding Liren in the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 finals held in Singapore, becoming the youngest ever to achieve the title and only the second Indian world chess champion after Viswanathan Anand.
During their conversation, Adani lauded Gukesh's groundbreaking achievement. “I feel so happy inside that this is the power of India. And the power of India is youth like you,” he told the chess prodigy. Adani later shared the encounter on X, celebrating Gukesh’s success.
Reflecting on his interaction with the young champion, Adani shared insights into overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities. “Anytime when I meet with younger people, I always tell them that never be afraid about challenges. You find in every challenge, every obstacle, there is an opportunity. You just have to identify that opportunity. And when you have a passion, you work on it. Work hard on it,” he emphasized.

Adani also spoke about self-belief and its transformative power. “When you keep that thing, that I want to reach there, self-belief will give inner strength also, inner willpower will also take you there. People who have a will to survive, or to achieve something, they always reach—because then they will work hard,” he added.
Adani on Challenges and Self-Belief
Sharing his journey, Adani reflected on the humble beginnings that shaped his path. “Today, when I am looking back, so many people are a godsend that helped me to achieve what we are today. Sometimes I feel that, I am not educated, I come from a very humble family background, no experience, no exposure. Within 40 years of journey, how can you reach this place? One, of course, is India’s time, and two, being passionate about challenges as opportunities,” he said.
Adani concluded by sharing that he always sees challenges as an opportunity.
Gukesh's Journey to the Chess Throne
Gukesh’s stellar win in Singapore has been a defining moment for Indian sports in 2024. The decisive 14th game of the championship, tied 6.5-6.5, saw Gukesh outplay Ding Liren to secure a 7.5-6.5 victory, cementing his place in history. Adani’s recognition of Gukesh highlights the potential of India’s youth to shine on the global stage.
