Apple shares drop 3% as shorter iPhone 16 shipping times signal softer demand

The European Central Bank should keep cutting interest rates gradually, its chief economist said on Monday, but its policymakers expressed differing views on how to signal their intent given economic uncertainty.

The ECB cut rates for the second time this year on Thursday but provided little to no guidance on further moves, even as some policymakers privately argued that coming back for another cut in just five weeks was too soon.

Markets now see only a 25% chance of a move on Oct. 17, but pricing could shift after the U.S. Federal Reserve's own policy decision later this week.

DGGI suggests info sharing with fgn govts, blocking websites to curb GST evasion in OIDAR services

GST investigation arm DGGI has suggested reciprocal arrangements with foreign governments for information sharing and enforcement measures as well as blocking of websites to prevent tax evasion in OIDAR services like e-gaming, online education, and advertisement. The move has been necessitated as it has come to DGGI's notice that there are entities, including online casinos that are based out of tax havens and also those that operate through offshore VPNs and cloud-based platforms. These entities are non-cooperative and appear to intentionally avoid tax compliance, and hence an information exchange with global law enforcement agencies would help crack down on any evasion. Online Information and Database Access or Retrieval (OIDAR) services are those that are delivered over the internet or electronic network and whose supply is essentially impossible without Information Technology. It includes a wide array of services viz cloud services, digital content, online gaming, online advertising, etc. When such services are provided by an offshore entity to a non-taxable recipient, the supplier becomes liable for obtaining registration and discharging GST on the same.

Short-sellers may target banks with large CRE exposure: RBI Governor warns

Banks with substantial commercial real estate (CRE) exposure could become a prime target for short sellers amid global liquidity stress, warned Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das. The governor stressed on the need for proactive regulation to safeguard bank balance sheets from growing systemic risks. He cited a 12 per cent drop in global CRE prices over the past year, coupled with rising vacancy rates and increased financing costs, as flagged by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
