Sridhar Vembu Backs IIT Madras Director Who Batted For Cow Urine's Medicinal Value - See Post

Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu has stirred a fresh wave of discussions on traditional Indian wisdom by backing IIT Madras Director Professor V Kamakoti's assertion of cow urine, or gomutra, having medicinal properties. Taking to the social media platform X, Vembu stressed Bharat's unique knowledge systems and criticised those dismissing such ideas under the guise of rationalism.

"This nation Bharat has profound wisdom the world is slowly coming to see. As a civilisation, we will holistically invent technology so that human life on this planet is in harmony with nature. It is profound ignorance masquerading as the 'rationalist' outlook that is using patterns of thought already being challenged in the West to attack our deep thinkers here. We will fight this fight," he wrote.

His remarks came in response to criticism of Kamakoti, who recently highlighted the medicinal benefits of gomutra during an event at a Go Samrakshana Sala in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Maatu Pongal.

Kamakoti's claims

Prof. Kamakoti had shared an anecdote involving a sanyasi who reportedly cured a high fever by consuming gomutra. He claimed it possesses anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and digestive properties and could be effective for conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Kamakoti also advocated for protecting indigenous cow breeds and adopting organic farming practices.

The comments sparked a heated debate after Congress leader Karti Chidambaram shared a video of Kamakoti's speech, labelling it as "pseudoscience." In a tweet, Chidambaram remarked:"Peddling pseudoscience by @iitmadras Director is most unbecoming @IMAIndiaOrg."

The criticism was echoed by several netizens, while others rallied behind Kamakoti, applauding his efforts to highlight traditional practices often overlooked in modern discourse.
