On the opening day of the Winter Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticised those who, despite being repeatedly rejected by voters, prevent meaningful debates and discussions in the Parliament. He stated, "Those who have been continuously rejected by the people 80-90 times do not allow discussions to take place in the Parliament."
PM Modi strongly condemned the disruptive tactics used by certain opposition parties, accusing them of attempting to undermine democratic processes and obstruct parliamentary discussions.
Speaking on the first day of the session, Modi remarked, "Some people, who have been rejected by the people, are constantly trying to control the Parliament through hooliganism by a handful of individuals." He emphasised that such actions are being closely watched by the public, adding, "The people of the country count all their actions, and when the time comes, they will punish them."
The Prime Minister aimed for the opposition’s lack of respect for the democratic process, asserting, “They neither respect the spirit of democracy nor understand the importance of people’s aspirations. They have no responsibility towards them and are unable to live up to the expectations of the people.” Highlighting the dedication of Indian voters to democracy, Modi called for a more responsible approach from all member
s of Parliament. "The voters of India are dedicated to democracy, their dedication to the Constitution, and their faith in the parliamentary system. All of us sitting in Parliament must live up to the sentiments of the people, and this is the need of the hour," he added.
Modi also underscored the global spotlight on India, urging Parliament to be a beacon of respect and discipline. "Today, the world is looking at India with great hope. Our use of Parliament’s time and our behaviour in the House should be such that it strengthens the respect India has gained on the global stage," he said.
The Winter Session, which will run until December 20, is expected to be a pivotal time for parliamentary discussions, with numerous key bills scheduled for consideration. Modi’s comments set the tone for the session, as the government looks to address important issues while facing ongoing opposition disruptions.
