Installing a GPS tracker is an easy job.
Types of GPS Tracker for vehicles in the market:
There are different types of GPS trackers that are available in the market. Firstly, there are plug-and-play GPS trackers, battery-powered GPS trackers, Hardwired GPS trackers, and active and passive GPS trackers available for vehicles and other purposes. Mostly, car owners use a plug-and-play GPS tracker or a hardwired GPS tracker.
Let us look at the steps to install a GPS tracker in the vehicle:
Step-1 Choosing the right GPS tracker for the car:
Plug-and-Play GPS tracker: These trackers get connected to the OBD-II port of the vehicle and do not need any external connection or wiring.
Hardwired GPS tracker: These GPS trackers need more additional struggle and they are attached to the car’s electrical system.
Step-2 Tools Required:
For a Hardwired GPS tracker, the following instruments are required, wire strippers, electrical tape, a screwdriver, and zip ties for mounting.
Step-3 For installing Plug-and-Play GPS Trackers:
First, locate the OBD-II port of the car and it is normally present under the steering wheel or the dashboard. Then connect the GPS tracker to the OBD-II port and secure it for stability so that the connection does not loosen.
Step-4 For installing Hardwired GPS Tracker:
First, locate the car’s ignition wires. These are present under the steering wheel.
Then the red wire of the GPS tracker should be connected to the constant power source.
The black wire of the GPS tracker should be connected to the grounding point.
The white wire should be connected to the ignition switch wire. This powers up the tracker when the car is switched on.
All the connections of the tracker should be secured using electrical tape to prevent any damage through short circuits.
Step-5 Mounting of the tracker:
Both types of GPS trackers must be placed at a location, which allows for good reception of GPS signals and is out of sight. There are common spots in a vehicle such as underneath the seats, below the dashboard, or near the bumpers.
