Hyundai's airbag issue: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Hyundai Motor America has issued a recall of more than 49,000 vehicles in the US due to concerns over potential airbag malfunctions. The recall is driven by an issue where the main floor wiring harness might grind against the passenger-side second-row bench seat assembly. This damage could lead to unintended airbag deployment or prevent the airbags from deploying in the event of a crash.

The recall has specifically impacted certain 2024 models of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe HEV. Hyundai Motors has begun informing affected vehicle owners and will address the issue by inspecting and replacing any damaged components as necessary.

In a separate action, Hyundai Motor America is recalling an additional 12,000 vehicles in the US due to a risk of unintended vehicle movement. This issue has affected certain 2010-2013 Genesis Coupe models as well. The problem has originated from a potential fracture in the return spring within the ignition lock switch, which could have potentially resulted in the vehicle moving unexpectedly if started while in gear and without the parking brake engaged.

Both recalls have highlighted ongoing safety concerns that automotive manufacturers must address to ensure vehicle reliability and driver safety. Hyundai is working closely with the NHTSA to resolve these issues and minimise any potential risks to vehicle occupants. Vehicle owners who may be affected by these recalls are advised to contact their local Hyundai dealers for further instructions and repairs.

Recently, Hyundai Motor Company has been in a legal battle that follows accusations of inflating sales figures for electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States. Hyundai Motor dealers that were led by Napleton Aurora Imports and affiliated franchisees have filed a lawsuit in Chicago federal court and claim that Hyundai has shown false sales data and dealerships are penalised for refusing to participate in the alleged scheme.
