Top 10 most visited websites in the World: Google, YouTube, Facebook, more

Google and Meta are some of biggest tech companies in the world. One of the reasons for this is the number of people who visit their websites every month.

Google and Meta are some of biggest tech companies in the world. One of the factors that make these companies giants is the shear number of people who visit their sister sites or platforms every month not just in India but across the globe. Together these companies drive a significant chunk of the global internet traffic. Beyond Google and Meta's websites, Wikipedia, and Reddit too enjoy a significant footfall as far as the number of visitors per month are concerned. 

So, here is a list of top 10 most visited websites (via Forbes) in the world. The list includes platforms such as YouTube, WhatsApp and Instagram and it includes data for September 2024 that has been sourced from SimpleWeb.

Top 10 most visited websites in the World: September 2024

1. Google .com

Google .com or Google's search saw 82 billion visiting the website in month of September 2024. It had an average visit duration of around 11 minutes with users visiting at least eight pages every visit. Google.com is owned by Alphabet Inc.

2. YouTube

YouTube is also owned by Alphabet Inc. It saw 28 billion people visit the website in the month of September 2024. Interestingly, YouTube.com saw the highest average visit duration at around 20 minutes in the past month with a user watching 10-11 videos per visit.

3. Facebook

Facebook.com is owned by Mark Zuckerberg's Meta Platforms. It witnessed 12.3 billion visiting the website in the month of September 2024 with users spending at least 11 minutes on the platform on an average.

4. Instagram

Instagram is also owned by Meta Platforms. It was launched by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in 2010. In 2012, they sold the platform to Facebook (now Meta) for $1 billion. Instagram saw 5.7 billion people visiting the platform in September, Forbes data has shown, with the average time spent on the platform being around 8:39 minutes.

5. WhatsApp

Meta Platforms was launched by Jan Koum and Brian Acton in 2009. It was acquired by Meta in 2014 for $1.5 billion. In the month of September 2024, WhatsApp Web or whatsapp.com saw 4.5 billion platform visiting the platrom with average spent time being around 15 minutes.

6. X.com

X.com was launched as Twitter by Jack Dorsey in 2007. It was acquired by Elon Musk for $44 billion in 2022. Musk's X.com saw 4.3 billion people visiting the platform in September 2024 with the average time spent on the platform being around 12.42 minutes.

7. Wikipedia

Wikipedia is one of the most popular platforms when it comes to research. It saw 3.8 billion people visiting the platform in September 2024 with the average time spent being around 3.19 minutes. It is worth noting that the website witnessed the lowest pages per visit time of around 3 pages.

8. Yahoo

Yahoo was established in 1994. At the time, it was known for its search engine, Yahoo Search. Today, it offers a host of services including email and advertising solution. Yahoo witnessed 3.4 billion visiting the platform in September with average time spent on the platform being around eight minutes.

9. Reddit

Reddit was founded by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian in 2005. Just as Yahoo, it witnessed 3.4 billion people visiting its website in September 2024. On an average, users spent six minutes on the platform per visit.

10. Yahoo Japan

Yahoo Japan is version of the original platform that was launched in the country in collaboration with SoftBank. It saw 3.2 billion users visiting the platform last month with average spent time per visit being around 9.13 minutes.
