PM Modi in US: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the CEO's Roundtable in New York today wherein he talked about a variety of subjects ranging from the ethical use of AI to India's plans of expanding semiconductor manufacturing in the country. During his meeting with the top tech CEOs in the US, PM Modi also touched upon the topic of opportunities offered by India in various fields including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, life sciences and biotechnology.

"Had a fruitful roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation and more," Modi said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Leaders of tech companies who attended the CEOs Roundtable in New York today include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Adobe President and CEO Shantanu Narayen, Nvidia President and CEO Jensen Huang, Accenture CEO Julie Sweet, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, HP CEO and President Enrique Lores, Global Foundaries' CEO Thomas Caulfield, Biogen CEO Chris Viehbacher, Bristol Myers Squibb CEO Chris Boerner, Eli Lilly and Company CEO David A Ricks, LAM Research CEO Tim Archer, Moderna Chairman Dr Noubar Afeyan, and Kyndryl CEO Martin Schroeter.

On Biotechnology and life sciences

At the meeting, PM Modi talked about India emerging as a global biotech powerhouse. He said that India has introduced the 'Bio E3 policy' in order to promote bio-manufacturing in the country.

"Today India is rapidly emerging as a global biotech powerhouse...There are possibilities for affordable research, and affordable manufacturing in India...The BioSecure Act which aims to address capacity gaps and India can fulfil this in a trusted and efficient manner," PM Modi said.

"We aim to become a leader in providing solutions for health security and other global challenges," he added.

On AI

During the CEOs Roundtable, PM Modi stressed on the ethical use of AI and creating a strong legal framework for protecting intellectual property rights.

"I am also putting a lot of stress on data governance...India is one of the first countries to make an AI strategy...India is committed to the responsible and ethical use of AI (artificial intelligence)...To prevent deepfake a watermark should appear so that the public can identify a deepfake video...I am hopeful that you can contribute a lot to it," he added.

On creating experts

PM Modi also said that India aimed to create 85,000 technicians, engineers and research and development experts in the next one to two years.

On chip manufacturing

Semiconductors and chip manufacturing remained one of the recurring themes in PM's Modi's speeches and meeting in the US. At the CEOs Roundtable, PM Modi said that the electronic sector in India is worth more than 150 billion dollars and that the government aimed take it to 500 billion dollars by 2030.

"India has a lot of potential to become a reliable partner in global semiconductor supply chain systems...The electronic sector in India is worth more than 150 billion dollars and we aim to take it to 500 billion dollars by 2030 to create six million job opportunities in this sector," he said.

On technology being India's growth pillar

At the meeting with the tech CEOs, PM Modi hailed technology as one of the key pillars in India's growth.

"Technology is an important pillar of Viksit Bharat. We have provided enormous opportunities for technological collaboration and investment...Today, India has one of the most viable digital ecosystems," he added.
