Microsoft rolls out Windows 11 24H2 update: Top features, how to download

Windows 11 update: Microsoft has announced that it has started releasing Windows 11 update, also known as version 24H2, to all the supported PCs. Microsoft says that the Windows 11 24H2 update ‘is a full operating system (OS) swap’ and that it brings both AI updates and functional improvements to the Windows PCs. Some of the new features coming to the Windows 11 PCs include Voice Clarity feature from Microsoft's Surface devices, support for Wi-Fi 7 and QR code sharing for Wi-Fi networks.

"AI is continuing to transform how we use our PCs. Today, we’re excited to take the next step on our journey with the announcement of new AI-powered features for Copilot+ PCs and Windows 11. These innovations are designed to simplify your workflow and personalize your experience," Microsoft's CVP of Windows and Devices, Pavan Davukuri, wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) announcing the update.

As far as availability is concerned, Microsoft says that it is taking a phased approach towards rolling out the Windows 11 24H2 update. The company also said that it will first roll out the Windows 11 24H2 update to devices running Windows 11 version 22H2 and 23H22. Gradually, it will roll out this update to more devices based on the hardware availability and other factors impacting the user experience.

Windows 11 24H2 update: Top features

Here are the top features coming to Windows 11 PCs with the 24H2 update:

– Energy Saver: Microsoft is bringing a new Energy Saver feature to Windows 11 PCs. This feature is aimed at helping users extend the battery life of their PCs and reduce energy consumption. It can be configured by going to the Power and Battery option in the System Settings.

– Wi-Fi 7 support: Windows 11 24H2 update also brings support for Wi-Fi 7 to the supported PCs. Wi-Fi 7 increases network speed and reduces latency.

– Dynamic Refresh Rate: Windows 11 24H2 update also brings support for dynamic refresh rate to Windows PCs. Microsoft says that users can enable this feature using a simple toggle button and that once it is enabled, Windows will dynamically adjust the refresh rate up to the selected rate to help saving power.

– Voice Clarity: Microsoft is also bringing its Voice Clarity feature to all Windows 11 PCs. Earlier, this feature was restricted to its Surface devices only. This feature uses AI models to ‘cancel echo, suppress background noise, and minimises reverberation’ in real-time.

– QR Code Support for Wi-Fi Network: Another important feature coming to Windows 11 PCs is the ability to share Wi-Fi network using QR codes. With this update, users can share their mobile hotspots using QR codes, scan a QR code to instantly connect to a Wi-Fi network and share their Wi-Fi password with another device using a QR code.
