More advanced iPhone: Apple is hosting its fall event on September 9 to launch the iPhone 16 series, so the rumour mill has now shifted the conversations to next year’s flagship iPhone, likely to be known as iPhone 17 Pro Max. A few previous reports have said there may be four models once again, but a new Air model may replace the Plus model. The Pro Max model will also see significant changes, including a whopping RAM capacity of 12GB – the highest in an iPhone by far.

Renowned Apple analyst, Ming Chi-Kuo of TF International Securities said Apple is planning more changes for next year’s iPhone lineup. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, as it is currently dubbed, will exclusively come with 12GB of RAM. While the exact use cases for the availability of 12GB of RAM on an iPhone are unclear, the analyst believes it will allow the iPhone 17 Pro Max to process AI faster and more efficiently. The iPhone 17 Pro Max may also come with a unique cooling system consisting of the vapour chamber technology with graphite sheets. The other models in the series will use graphite sheets alone, making way for the Pro Max model to stand out.

Kuo also said that Apple will make 8GB of RAM standard on its iPhone, as it is the minimum requirement for Apple Intelligence features and tools to work. The upcoming iPhone 16 series will have at least 8GB of RAM, thus, support the company’s artificial intelligence tools. It is also why the existing iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will not be eligible for Apple Intelligence, despite being only a year old.

His report also outlines that Apple is planning to launch an iPhone 17 Slim next year. It will likely replace the Plus model and come with a sleek design, much like the iPad Air. The fourth-generation iPhone SE is also expected next year with 8GB of RAM, making it eligible for Apple Intelligence.
